This year, there are more than ten times as many applicants for the acting department of the University of Theater and Film Arts, and on average about ten times more people applied for all the student places advertised at SZFE, Origo wrote on Sunday. Gábor Szarka, the chancellor of the university, told the newspaper that the admission process is smooth, and while more than a third of the applicants used to be in Budapest, this year the proportion of applicants from rural and cross-border countries is around 90 percent.

The chancellor put it this way: the young people may have realized that studying at the renewed SZFE is no longer primarily the privilege of an elite in Budapest. "In our admission campaign, we wanted to convey this very message to young people in the countryside, and now we are very proud that the message has fallen on fertile ground, and the youth of the countryside have voted so much in favor of our University," said Gábor Szarka.
