Without a strong region, there is no strong Hungarian economy, HUF 1,800 billion in development funds will be delivered to Hungarian settlements in the coming years, said Minister of Finance Mihály Varga in a video uploaded to his community page. He added that this means that rural settlements will receive nearly 40 per cent more development funding, according to the government’s decision, than between 2014 and 2020. These resources will also help strengthen the local economy, improve employment and develop municipal public services.

Most of the support will be directed to the less developed regions, therefore two thirds of the budget will go to the counties of the Southern Great Plain, Southern Transdanubia, the Northern Great Plain and Northern Hungary.

The government has consistently stated since 2010 that there is no strong Hungarian economy without a strong countryside. It is also due to this that last year the Hungarian economy achieved the highest growth in the last 30 years, Mihály Varga pointed out.
