The left is lying that the government is anti-cultural. The reality is just the opposite. The government also provides culture, theaters, the film industry, and related education with orders of magnitude higher support than the Gyurcsánys intended for this purpose.

Almost HUF 15 billion more money has been received to support theaters since 2010 and with the support of the government, theaters in the countryside and in the capital are being renewed, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Human Resources (Emmi) to MTI on Wednesday, Hungarian Culture Day.

Many theaters are still under construction and plans are underway to renovate even more buildings. "Compared to 2010, the government will spend two and a half times more on culture, this year the amount will reach HUF 584 billion," Emmi said.
As they write, theaters in the capital can manage HUF 500 million more in 2020, and the government also provided 30 percent more funding to rural theaters and 20 percent more to independent alternative theaters than in the previous year.

However, according to the announcement, the fate of the theater became questionable after the new city administration of Budapest stated that it was “not asking” for cultural investments in Liget.

As highlighted in the Communication, the Cultural Act passed last year creates a transparent operating model, a clean, predictable situation and accountability in the maintenance of theaters. Municipalities are still free to decide whether or not to maintain their own theater as a voluntary task and, if so, to operate it only under municipal or mixed - state and municipal - reservations. Municipalities can ask the government to maintain mixed-use theaters until March 1, after which they will conclude agreements and set the amount of state aid for 2020.
